CHATTAROY, Wash. - Cieana Close scored a team-high 10 points as the visiting Lakeland Hawks rallied from an eight-point deficit to beat the Riverside Rams 43-37 in a nonleague girls basketball game on Tuesday night.

"It took us four quarters to start forcing turnovers," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "But the fourth was by far the most aggressive we played. It didn't look good going into the fourth down eight, but we decided to play a little harder and knock some shots down. It wasn't our best effort for three quarters - but the fourth was one of our best of the season."

Kacie Derby had 10 rebounds and six points and Darby Murray had nine points and seven assists for Lakeland (4-3), which hosts Moscow in its 4A Inland Empire League opener on Saturday.

"We got down early, but we never quit," Lake City coach Royce Johnston said. "I'm extremely proud of our effort. We found out what we're made of tonight, and we gave ourselves a chance to win in the fourth quarter."

Jamie Weisner, who has signed with Oregon State, scored a game-high 19 points for Clarkston (2-0). But Johnston had praise for the defense of junior Kassie Torres.
