RANGELY, COLO. - The Lady Bison wracked up 1,500 miles on the road last weekend, traveling to Rangley, Colo. for two games against Colorado Northwestern and Eastern Utah.
In their first game on Friday, SKC dropped its game against Colorado Northwestern 96-58. The Lady Bison shot 42 percent from the field and Sharna Frazier scored 16 points while Polson's Charla Brown scored 13.
"They were fast teams that we played," Lady Bison head coach Juan Perez said. "They moved the ball well and they were aggressive defensively."
SKC outrebounded Colorado Northwestern 33-32, but took 47 shots to their opponent's 78. Perez In their second game of the weekend, the Lady Bison fell 92-36 to Eastern Utah.
The Lady Bison shot 26.3 percent from the field, and turned the ball over 19 times in the loss.
"I was kind of frustrated with our play," Perez said. "We made mistakes but we sat down and watched the game video so I hope now the team sees what they need to do."
Frazier scored 19 points in the game while pulling down nine rebounds. Post player Priscilla Raven added 10 points and nine rebounds.
"The girls went out there and played hard," Perez said. "I just think we were just trying to rush things on offense."
SKC plays tough teams at the beginning of their schedule on purpose to get themselves ready for the end-of-year AIHEC tournament and this year is no different, with the Lady Bison learning as they go against some tough competition.
"It seems like every year we struggle at the beginning and the girls figure it out through playing these games," Perez said. "The more games we get under our belt, the more improved we get."
Perez used the analogy of practices being class time, games being quizzes and then the final being the AIHEC Tournament.
"We try to really have them stay focused on AIHEC," Perez said. "When that comes around, we should be ready to put our best foot forward."
