Blues festival wins Empire Award

The Coeur d'Alene Blues Festival has won the Empire Award for "Best blues event for 2011" from the Inland Empire Blues Society.

Festival organizer Craig Heimbigner accepted the award at the 17th annual Empire Awards ceremony.

"The credit goes to my crew at Too Far North Productions, as well as to Bill Reagan at The Coeur d'Alene Resort and his staff and Jim Volke of Impact Lighting," Heimbigner said.

The Coeur d'Alene Blues Festival is held every year at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. The 2012 festival is scheduled for March 30-31, with a gospel/Motown brunch on April 1.

The Inland Empire Blues Society, formed in 1992, represents eastern and central Washington, North Idaho, eastern Oregon, southern British Columbia and western Montana. The Coeur d'Alene Resort event joins other recent winners such as The Ritzville Blues Festival and the Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival.

Kimball Office submits IDEQ request

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has received a request for an air quality permit to construct from Kimball Office in Post Falls.

The permit will allow the company to install two natural gas-fired burning ovens and a hot water heater at its metal office furniture manufacturing facility, 1881 West Seltice Way. It will also convert the company's existing Tier II air quality operating permit to a facility-wide PTC.

A public comment period will be provided on the proposed permit if a written request is submitted to DEQ by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

The permit application is available for review at www.deq.idaho.gov. Kimball's operating permit requires renewal every five years. DEQ officials said little changes are occurring with regard to air emissions.

Submit requests for a 30-day public comment period and questions regarding the public comment process on DEQ's website or by mail or e-mail to: Tessa Stevens, Air Quality Division, DEQ State Office, 1410 N. Hilton, Boise, ID 83706; tessa.stevens@deq.idaho.gov.
