SPOKANE - Zech Martin scored a game-high 28 points, including six 3-pointers, as the University Titans, picked to win the Greater Spokane League, beat the Coeur d'Alene Vikings, ranked No. 2 in 5A in Idaho, 73-61 in a nonleague game on Saturday night.

"They just shot the lights out tonight," Coeur d'Alene assistant coach Steve Bourgard said. "It wasn't that we didn't shoot well, they just shot the ball really well."

Deon Watson scored 20 points and Gage Neirinckx added 19 for Coeur d'Alene (1-1), which travels to Stanwood (Wash.) on Thursday.

Brett Bailey scored 18 points for University, which made 10 3-pointers as a team.

"We didn't shoot that well at all in the first quarter," Lakeland coach Dave Stockwell said. "They played a tough defense on us the entire game."

Lakeland closed to a four-point deficit in the third quarter on 3-pointers from Matt Horne and Adam Black.

Eric Cooper scored 11 points for Lakeland (1-3), which travels to East Valley on Tuesday.

PENDLETON, Ore. - Ryan Schwartz posted 13 points and four rebounds to lead Sandpoint over Pasco in the third-place game of the Pendleton tournament.

Jackson Olin and Trevor Litzell each chipped in with eight points and four rebounds, and the Bulldogs (2-4) prevailed in a defensive battle that was tight from start to finish.

"It was a helter-skelter affair, which we've managed to struggle with this season," said Bulldogs coach Tyler Haynes, lauding the play of Litzell on the blocks. "Big game by Trevor, he was kind of the difference maker today. He played a lot of minutes and was effective on the glass."

The Bulldogs host Kellogg on Tuesday.

SPIRIT LAKE - Warren Joiner scored 25 points, including 9 of 12 from the free throw line, as the Lumberjacks beat the Tigers in the Intermountain League opener for both schools.

"It was a good battle," Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said. "They got up pretty good in the second quarter, but we got up by two after the third quarter."

Satchel Schetzle scored 12 points for St. Maries (3-0), which shot 22 of 31 from the free throw line.

"I was proud of our guys," Hanna said. "We made a good run at them, but they just outplayed us in the fourth quarter."

Keegan Scott scored 13 points for Timberlake (3-1), which travels to Wallace on Tuesday.

St. Maries will travel to Cheney on Tuesday.

"Wallace definitely played harder than us," Lakeside coach Bill Brebner said. "We missed a layup to tie it and had a play for our best 3-point shooter, but he turned the ball over. We made mistakes, but they came to play. We're definitely looking forward to playing them again."

Jordan Brown had 15 points for Lakeside (3-1), which hosts Coeur d'Alene Charter on Tuesday.

"When they came out to warm up, I thought we were playing Whitworth," Charter coach Brian Childs said. "But we competed pretty well in the first half. Their size ultimately got to us."
