Spokane Veterans Affairs Medical Center hires public affairs officer
The Spokane Veterans Affairs Medical Center has hired a new public affairs officer.
Bret Bowers, a U.S.A.F. broadcasting and public affairs veteran, began his duties at the Spokane VAMC on Dec. 5. Bowers has worked in a variety of positions in both the public and private sector, including 18 years with the KXLY Broadcast Group - as a radio and television news reporter, morning show host, news/sports photojournalist, community relations manager and broadcast sales executive.
In addition, Bowers has been the executive director of the Coeur d'Alene Lakeshore Property Owners Association since 2002. Other positions have been with the Coeur d'Alene Area Chamber of Commerce, Concerned Businesses of North Idaho, and as a sales and marketing consultant for a variety of industries.
Bowers is a 1992 graduate of Eastern Washington University. He and his wife, Suzanne, have four children.
Kootenai Electric Cooperative seeks board of directors members
The Kootenai Electric Cooperative nominating committee is looking for KEC members interested in serving on its board of directors. Candidates must meet the qualifications including the ability to invest a minimum of 40 days per year on board-related activities and the ability to periodically attend conferences and director training conducted within the Northwest.
In April 2012, there will be three positions up for election:
District 2 served by Donna Boekel. The part of the system south of Highway 53, and north of the Spokane River to the west of Lake Coeur d'Alene and I-90 to the east of Lake Coeur d'Alene.
District 4 served by Bill Swick. The part of the system south of Setters and west of Lake Coeur d'Alene.
District At-Large served by Terry LaLiberte. One position representing the entire service territory.

Landers Insurance moves to new location on Sherman Avenue
Landers Insurance has moved to 816 Sherman Ave.
Owned by Paul Landers, a 2004 Lake City High School graduate, the independent insurance agency offers auto, home, health, life and commercial coverage.
The business, which opened in January 2010, had been at 1218 Sherman Ave.
Landers Insurance also recently hired Lonni Williams as a new agent. Williams has 15 years experience in the insurance industry.
Hours are 8:30-5 Monday through Friday.

Doc Holiday's Saloon and Grill to hold grand opening Friday
Doc Holiday's Saloon and Grill, 9510 N Government Way, Hayden, is having its grand opening celebration on Friday. It offers burgers, sandwiches, breakfast, liquor, wine and beer. It will have karaoke Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. It also has pool and darts.
Owners are Sarah Eddings, Jason Koss and Dwayne Bever.
The Unholy Rollers will be on stage Friday.
Hours are Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Idaho Club developers have to replace $4.9M in surety bonds
The developers of the Idaho Club have until Jan. 3 to replace $4.9 million in surety bonds for road and utility infrastructure improvements at the luxury golf resort.
Bonner County put Pend Oreille Bonner Development on notice in August that the company was in default because the improvements covered by the bonds have not been certified as complete.
The county requested payments be drawn on bonds held by Western Insurance Co., a Utah stock insurance company.
Utah's 3rd District Court, however, ordered the company liquidated in September because of insolvency, according to court documents.
Western Insurance held a $4.2 million bond and another bond for $754,000 for the Idaho Club, which is the subject of foreclosure proceedings for defaulting on loans.
The bonds covered a variety of improvements, but mainly involve water and sewer infrastructure, in addition to road work, stormwater management features and fire hydrants, said Bonner County Planning Director Clare Marley.
