VETS: Focus on best subjects
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years AGO
It seems to me that Veterans Day is designated as a time of remembrance, respect and support for our veterans, present military personnel, and those who gave their lives in that service. Unless I have missed them, I have seen no pictures in The Press of veterans and/or active members of the services in the parades celebrating the day.
Many services were present. Active personnel and equipment, veterans, and support groups made up a good portion of the string of floats and other conveyances making up the parade. The people lining the street, and there were a lot of them, were very attentive and audible, paying their respect by salutes, cries of "Thank you for your service," etc., which were very appreciated by those participating in the parade.
I am sure many photos were taken during the event. Most of them were taken by observers. Some by news media. The confusing part of this to me is the absence of pictures in The Press of those we are honoring in this parade. A little girl waving a flag and a youth in camouflage just doesn't cover the event in my mind. I would rather see no photos at all than pictures ignoring the purpose of the event.
