Ted Thompson, 85

Ted Thompson, 85, resident of Hope, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, in Sandpoint.

Ted was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Coeur d'Alene to Nels and Edna Thompson. He grew up and attended schools in Spokane Valley, graduating from Central Valley High School in 1944. Ted served his country in the United States Air Force. He then went to work for Brown Trailer Co., which took him to Ohio in 1949 to help open a new plant.

Ted married Enid Glann on Nov. 4, 1950, in Maumee, Ohio. The couple made their home in Liberty Lake, Wash. In 1963 Ted had an opportunity to help start Comet Trailer Co. In 1976 he helped open Coeur d'Alene Trusses, which later became Coeur d'Alene Building Supply.

In 1991 Ted retired. He and Enid enjoyed traveling, skiing at Schweitzer Mountain and living on Hayden Lake. In 2001 they moved to the Hope Peninsula.

Ted is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Prime Timers; he also served on the boards of several property owners associations, the Hope Community Center and the Coeur d'Alene Home Builders Association. One of the things that Enid admired about Ted was his ability to fix anything and he enjoyed working in his shop. In retirement Ted and Enid enjoyed a trip to Norway with their niece, Karolyn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Enid, in Hope; one son, Eric Thompson of Spokane; three grandchildren, Luke Pillsbury, Matthew and Karynn Thompson; one great-grandson, Jonathon Pillsbury and niece Karolyn (Rik) Kosanke of Liberty Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon Pillsbury in 1989, brother Olney Thompson and sister Esther True.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 417 N. Fourth, Sandpoint, ID 83864.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint with Pastor Andy Kennaly officiating.
