DRUMMOND - Mahalia Hendren posted a solid weekend for the

Scarlets, but Arlee went 0-2 in their opening weekend Drummond

Tournament appearance.

"I think we played fair for the first weekend," Arlee head coach

Richard Bachmeier said. "But not as good as I know we can

play."

Arlee faced District 13-C favorite Drummond on Friday, and the

Lady Trojans got out to a quick start, posting an 18-4 lead in the

first quarter. They would score 18 more points in the second

quarter and go on to win 60-28. Bachmeier said that his team needs

to take more shots than the 33 they took against Drummond, but they

need to be good shots and that it was just probably opening weekend

jitters.

Bachmeier said that his team needs to take more shots than the 33 they took against Drummond, but they need to be good shots and that it was just probably opening weekend jitters.

"They were hurrying their shots but it will come," Bachmeier said. "We have a lot of good shooters. Overall, we're ahead of where we were last year."

Hendren had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the matchup to lead the Scarlets. Tiffany O'Neil added six.

On Saturday against Seeley-Swan, another tough team picked to be among the top in their district, Arlee played a much closer game. Hendren led the team in scoring with 10 points again, and the Scarlet defense was much better the second time around.

Seeley Swan led 11-4 in the first quarter and moved that lead to 26-11 at halftime. Despite 20 second-half points by Arlee, Seeley-Swan was able to come away with the 48-31 victory.

"Overall, our hustle and heart seemed in pretty good shape," Bachmeier said. "Mahalia had the best weekend for us. I think Whitney Malatare did a good job hustle wise."

Bachmeier was impressed with Alexis Shick, who scored 10 points after rehabbing a knee injury from last season.

"This weekend was her first basketball game experience in 11 months," Bachmeier said.

The Scarlets will host Superior on Friday and then play at St. Regis on Tuesday.

"We started off with tough schools and we competed," Bachmeier said. "That's the main thing, we showed that we could compete with them."
