Chiefs stymied by goalie woes at Everett

EVERETT, Wash. - Joshua Winquist scored twice and the Everett Silvertips defeated the Spokane Chiefs 6-2 in Western Hockey League play Friday night in front of 4,792 at Comcast Arena.

Kent Simpson made 44 saves for Everett, which was outshot 46-25.

The U.S. Division last-place Silvertips (6-21-1-5, 18 points) got after Spokane starting goalie Mac Engel early, scoring three goals on their first 11 shots. Engel was pulled early in the second period and substitute Luke Lee-Knight didn't fare much better, giving up three more goals on 14 shots.

Spokane (15-10-2-3, 35 points) outshot Everett 21-6 and held a 2-1 lead after the first on goals from Collin Valcourt and Darren Kramer.

The Chiefs, who had two assists from Mitch Holmberg, host Portland tonight at 7 at the Spokane Arena.
