Glacier wrestlers 3rd at CMR Holiday Classic

GREAT FALLS - The Glacier Wolfpack finished third at the CMR Holiday Classic wrestling tournament on Saturday.
Great Falls High had a strong second day, finishing with 219.5 points to easily outdistance second place Billings Skyview at 177. Glacier scored 171, Forsyth was fourth at 165.5 and Laurel fifth at 154.
The Wolfpack finished with six placers, including three runners-up (Cooper Sipe at 145, Shane St. Onge at 160 and Mack Sutherland at 285).
"The first round was awesome. We still had 11 kids in," said Glacier coach Mark Fischer.
But the Wolfpack lost five wrestlers in the next round of wrestlebacks.
"That was really tough. From there on out, it was real tough wrestling," the coach said.
"(The tournament) was unbelievable. We have some great wrestlers in Montana and it was on showcase this weekend," he said.
The tournament is a little bit different than the state tournament in that Glacier faced wrestlers from all classes.
"It was a great test for us. We know we have some work to do," he said.
"We've got to keep improving to try to stay with (Great Falls and Billings Skyview)," he said.
"I think our kids are old enough now to realize we can never let off. I think this will be a positive for us. That said, we are definitely going to welcome this Christmas break with open arms," he added.
The Wolfpack still has one more assignment, though. It plays host in a dual on Tuesday to Missoula Sentinel.
