POLSON - Eight seventh-grade girls have decided to commit
themselves to a travel basketball team that should give them plenty
of experience in the gym and set them up for a future of hoops
success.
"They want to learn and they want to put out the effort," head
coach Jarrod Shew said. "They have a great attitude and it's a good
way to get them on the basketball court."
POLSON - Eight seventh-grade girls have decided to commit themselves to a travel basketball team that should give them plenty of experience in the gym and set them up for a future of hoops success.
"They want to learn and they want to put out the effort," head coach Jarrod Shew said. "They have a great attitude and it's a good way to get them on the basketball court."
The eight girls who make up the Polson Lady Pirates - Lee Camel, Alicia Camel, Chadelle Smith, Lauren Lefthand, Izabella Seeman, Mikayla Croft, Haley Fyant and Emma Shew - have already made quite a good showing for the Polson community. They won last Sunday's game against the Glacier Blackouts, 37-25, at home and two weeks ago they went undefeated at the Flathead Blitz Tournament in Kalispell.
"It was a good team effort and we look for them to make more and more improvements throughout the year," Shew, who coaches the team with Bob Gunderson, said of Sunday's game.
Polson was able to secure wins over two Kalispell teams and a Ronan squad in the tournament.
The travel team, which is outside of normal school basketball teams, means more commitment to the game. The girls meet twice a week to practice and will travel to numerous other tournaments at the beginning of the year and in March.
"It's a fun group," Shew said.
