MOSES LAKE - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offers a drive-in nativity through Dec. 27.
The nativity, entitled, "I Am The Light of the World," is open from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., seven days a week, in the parking lot of the LDS Stake center located at 515 S. Division St., in Moses Lake.
Drivers park and tune into 99.9 FM. The display features a video slide show and LED light display and music from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir alternating with readings from the New Testament on the birth of Jesus Christ.
The LDS church did a live nativity in the past, and while it was a success, it was a lot of work, said organizer David Plate.
"We said, what's the next best thing? We want to focus on the life of Jesus Christ," he said. "That was really kind of the impetus for us to be able to put this thing together so that it was wide open, anybody could come pretty much any time they want."
The other night, Plate talked to a young couple in their twenties that had come into the drive-in for a date night, he said.
The parking lot has been packed on the weekends, he said, recalling that the back row was filled up one night so people had to peek between the cars in front of them.
"It's really been just a great experience," said Plate. "It's everything we hoped ... It's been just a great response."
