SUPERIOR - The undefeated Bobcats had their hands full against Arlee (1-2) last Friday night and needed a late surge for the 51-44 victory. Superior came in with a 3-0 record and a front line of tall post players, but the young Warriors showed flashes of brilliance against them.

"Superior is a good team and they're going to be a real formidable opponent in our district," Arlee head coach Dustin Keltner said.

After taking an early 10-4 lead in the first quarter, Superior was punched squarely in the snout by an 18-2 second quarter by the Warriors.

"We played possibly our finest quarter of the year so far," Keltner said. "We executed well and took good shots while playing team ball."

Arlee went into halftime with a 22-12 lead, but Superior came out with a 21-10 run in the third quarter.

"They came out and hit their first two shots and we kind of let them right back into it," Keltner said. "We had our chances but give Superior credit, they executed down the stretch."

Going into the fourth quarter, Superior had a slim 33-32 lead and was able to fend off the Warriors for the win.

"We knew going in that we were going to have one of the toughest schedules in Class C," Keltner said. "Every night we're going to have to come ready and we'll get better from it."

Arlee showed a balanced attack with Junior Sansavere leading the way with 15 points. Sam Nelson had 13 and Josh Reed was close to double digits with eight points.

"Josh is going to get better with every game," Keltner said.

Keltner added that his team is playing well in stretches and just needs consistency to play with more discipline. They'll get another test this week with a district game against St. Regis on Tuesday and battle against Class B Florence on Thursday.

"It's a big challenge for our kids," Keltner said of Florence. "Every year they're at the state B tournament or right there."

Superior - 10 - 2 - 21 - 18 - 51
