OPEN HOUSE: Food donations were generous

The North Idaho Bed and Breakfast Association would like to thank everyone who visited our homes during our Annual Holiday Open House on Dec. 11. Because of your generosity, we donated 363 pounds of food to The Community Action Partnership in Coeur d'Alene and 406 pounds to ABC Food Bank in Athol.

In addition, a cash contribution of $160 was made to ABC Food Bank and $100 to the Coeur d'Alene Press Christmas for All. We enjoy opening our homes to the public each year and hope to see you all in the future. All the best during the Christmas season and in the New Year.

SCREENINGS: Teen dental party a success

The Panhandle Health District's 2nd Annual Teen Dental Party on Dec. 10 was a huge success thanks to the generosity of our local businesses and dental community. We were able to provide dental screenings/preventive services to nearly 40 middle school and high school students. Many received vouchers for follow-up restorative care and cleanings. Thank you to the following dental practices that generously donated the vouchers for follow-up care: Avondale Dental Center; Cheri Bloom, D.D.S.; Michael Boehm, D.M.D.; Brumbach Family Dentistry; Coeur d'Alene Dental Center; Cornerstone Dental; Post Falls Family Dental Center; Todd Schini, D.M.D.; McNamara, D.D.S. and Willamette Dental.

All kids received an electric toothbrush to take home. Thanks to the following local businesses for donating the electric toothbrushes and door prizes: Domino's in Post Falls, Hayden, Coeur d'Alene and Rathdrum; Papa Murphy's in Hayden and Post Falls; Pizza Hut in Post Falls and the Silver Lake Mall; Pizza Factory in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls; River City Lanes; Texas Roadhouse; Little Caesar's in Coeur d'Alene; Valentino's; Triple Play; MacKenzie River Pizza; Pretzel Maker; and Applebee's. Healthy snacks were donated by United Dairymen's Association. On behalf of Panhandle Health District, thank you to our incredible community for your support of this important dental event for area teens.

KIDNAPPED: All for a good cause

Thanks to the city of Hayden and city of Hayden Lake! City officials and committee members good-naturedly allowed to be abducted for "Kidnapped for a Cause" an event that raised $3,700 for the senior meals program through the Hayden Senior Center (HSC).

Tom Gorman (Hayden Lake City Council) walked away the winner of the Grand Prize Trophy for raising the most, followed by Tim Timmons (Hayden City Council), Nancy Lowery (Hayden mayoral candidate) and Ron McIntire (Hayden mayor). We also appreciate HSC volunteers and volunteers from CareNet - an organization dedicated to helping seniors in Kootenai County. Thank you Crystal Gorman (HSC volunteer), Jonie Anderson (Comfort Keepers), Tiffany Jones (Crest Home Health), Jessica Rettstatt (Life Care Coeur d'Alene), Tambra Maple (Family Home Health), Ene Gaines (Home Instead Senior Care) and the Board of Directors of HSC for sharing your time and talents.

And thank you Coeur d'Alene Press for letting the public know, prior to the event, that they could pose questions to electoral candidates. You all made a difference in the lives of local seniors. It's nice to know people care about seniors who sacrificed during their younger years to make the world a better place for future generations. It's our turn to return the favor to seniors, as well as provide an example to future generations.
