Joiner leads St. Maries past Lakeland at tourney

ROCKFORD, Wash. — Warren Joiner scored 19 points, Satchel Schetzle added 13 and St. Maries defeated Lakeland 46-33 in a consolation game at the Freeman tournament Wednesday.

“We are still a little rusty from the holiday layoff, but we played better than the night before,” St. Maries coach Craig Wicks said.

Matt Horne scored 12 points for Lakeland (2-7), which hosts Sandpoint next Thursday.

St. Maries (5-1) hosts Sandpoint on Tuesday.

ROCKFORD, Wash. — Kerstin Auer led the Lumberjacks with nine points in a loss to Freeman in the championship game of the Freeman tournament.

“Freeman played extremely tough defense,” St. Maries coach Jay Sines said. “We couldn’t handle their pressure They killed us on offensive rebounding, and you can’t keep giving them shot after shot.”

Freeman outrebounded the Lumberjacks 25-3 on the offensive glass.

St. Maries (2-5) travels to Priest River on Tuesday.

SPOKANE VALLEY — North Idaho Christian advanced to the championship game of the Tri-State Christian tournament with a pair of wins. North Idaho Christian (9-2) plays Flathead Valley Christian today at 3:15 p.m. at the HUB.

Alex Gwin scored 14 points and had four steals to lead North Idaho Christian past Kootenai Thunder 53-33.

Amanda Hobson had 10 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks to lead North Idaho Christian past Christian Center School 40-27. Lindsey Howard scored 13 points for CCS.
