COEUR d'ALENE - You can't coach speed.
And for the Coeur d'Alene Vikings on Thursday night - if you can't catch it, it's going to be a long night.
Four players scored in double figures for the Vikings as they rolled past the Federal Way Eagles 80-36 in the girls championship game of the Coeur d'Alene Inn-vitational at Rolly Williams Court.
Kyeli Parker scored 11 points for Coeur d'Alene (11-2), which jumped out to a 51-20 halftime lead.
"We knew what we wanted to do," said Parker, who was named tournament MVP. "We wanted to get started strong tonight and continue it against Lewiston (Tuesday) and in the Fish game (next Friday)."
Sophomore Sydney Williams had 11 points for Coeur d'Alene as an all-tournament selection.
"This was a big difference from last year," said Williams, who started as a freshman last season. "When Kendalyn came back after getting hurt, it made a huge difference."
Coeur d'Alene beat Federal Way in last year's title game 70-69.
"This was a great game," Coeur d'Alene coach Dale Poffenroth said. "All of our kids played well. We were able to play everyone tonight and our depth is really starting to come around."
Coeur d’Alene returns to 5A Inland Empire League action against visiting Lewiston on Tuesday at Elmer Jordan Court.
“Winning this tournament could be all for nothing,” Poffenroth said. “We’ve got to get ready to play Lewiston on Tuesday.”
Darah Huertas-Vining scored 12 points for Federal Way (7-2).
“We knew they were a great team coming into the game,” Federal Way coach Danny Graham said. “They flat out kicked our tails tonight. They got a lot of open shots. We need to go back to practice and continue to get better from this.”
