Robert Townsend, 72
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 11 months AGO
Robert R. Townsend, of Coeur d'Alene, entered peacefully into the Lord's arms on Jan. 29, 2011. Bob was born in Sasakwa, Okla., on Nov. 9, 1938, to Elbert Benjamin (Dick) and Gladys (Nelon) Townsend.
He moved to California as a youth with his grandparents, Tom and Cora Nelon, and graduated from Galt High School in 1957. He married Bonnie Galluzzi in 1960 and they had two children, Todd Raymond and Michael Richard. They divorced in 1994. He later married Beverly Sloan. Always the entrepreneur, he owned an A.R.C.O. gas station in Stockton, Calif. In 1980, he moved from Galt to Coeur d'Alene and opened several convenience stores and car washes in the area. Bob's biggest business idea came to fruition when he opened the Quad Park softball complex in Post Falls. He ran Quad Park for almost 20 years before selling the business to retire to Oklahoma. Coeur d'Alene never seemed far from his heart and he returned to Idaho in 2007.
Bob loved sports and the outdoors, an avid hunter and fisherman he would often meet up with high school buddies for fishing trips. He loved card games and dominoes and rarely lost a game. He was a fun-loving and hard-working man who will be missed.
Bob leaves behind sons, Todd of Coeur d'Alene and Mike of Nampa; sister Kathy Lewis of Amsterdam, Mo.; brothers, LeRoy Farmer of Wenatchee, Wash., and Jerry Farmer of Seminole, Okla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1939 and his mother in 2007. The family would like to thank Rose Terrace Cottages for their loving care.
Viewing is from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, with services at 10 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. A reception will follow at the Yates Hayden Chapel's Gathering Center. Please visit Bob's online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
