The Whitefish PTA recently awarded a $1,500 grant to Whitefish Middle School for a new kiln. A $1,300 grant was awarded to the Whitefish Independent High School for new kitchen appliances. Students use the school’s kitchen as part of the daily curriculum with their student-run store and numerous other projects.

The following Whitefish high school students have been nominated by Sen. Max Baucus or Rep. Denny Rehberg to U.S. military academies: Britney Petrina, Merchant Marine, Air Force and Naval academies; Cort Rogers, Air Force Academy; and Jonathan Reimer, Naval Academy.

Four Whitefish students at Montana State University-Billings were named to the fall 2010 dean’s list: Elaine Cook and Michael Fennessy with 4.0 GPA; and BreAnna Cameron, Brian Howe and Roisin O’Neill.

Julie Sadino, of Whitefish, was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Linfield College, in McMinnville, Ore.

Rehberg to attend rally for Jesus statue

Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg will attend a public rally in Whitefish on Nov. 10 in support of the World War II statue of Jesus on Big Mountain. Rehberg will be at the VFW Post 276 on Baker Avenue at 1 p.m.

Sled Dog Days pints for a purpose

Flathead Sled Dog Days is gearing up for its fifth annual dog sled race Jan. 6-8. Race organizers have partnered with the Whitefish Winter Carnival to become part of their festivities next month.
