Tigers lose two games

The St. Regis boys had two losses last week. They lost to Lincoln on Friday and fell to Hot Springs on Saturday.
At Lincoln on home on Friday, the boys got off to a slow start. Lincoln jumped to a quick lead, 18-4, in the first quarter.
“We didn’t break the press early on and we should have,” said Coach Dan Park. “There were opportunities.”
As the game went on, the Tigers figured a few things out and as they did, they started to break through the press. Park said that the Tigers have to get their taller guys to the inside because the team doesn’t have a lot of outside shooters.
“When we finally got the ball past that initial pressure, we got some good shots,” Park said. “But we can’t keep coming out and getting behind by 20 points early on and try to make that up.”
The Tigers studied the film from the game on Monday night because they ended up playing Lincoln again on Tuesday.
Against Lincoln on Friday, freshman Jarrod Tippens led St. Regis with 15 points. Thomas Spencer scored 14 points for the team.
Against Hot Springs, the team had a rough time right from the get-go as well. The team was down 0-30 after the first quarter alone. After the first quarter, St. Regis played evenly with Hot Springs. In fact, both teams scored 23 points over the next three quarters.
“We have to figure where the openings are,” Park said. “Some of it was partially missed shots, but we just couldn’t get past them in the beginning. A team will shoot well against a team that doesn’t play well.”
Park said that teams are so confident that they are going to beat St. Regis in the first quarter before they even get anything working.
“We have to start to scare them a little bit in the first part of the game,” Park said.
Spencer had a game high of 15 points against Hot Springs. Park said that despite two losses last week, he did see some “good things out of both games.”
This week, they will play also play Two Eagle and Noxon. Park said that the kids have been trying hard and he hopes that will continue into this week.
“And we’ll just see what we can accomplish,” Park said.

Alberton sends one to state
Twelve Alberton Panthers competed at divisional track over the past weekend, but only one ended up performing well enough in order to stamp a ticket to state. Jake Thompson will represent the Alberton Panthers at the state track meet this weekend in an event that Coach Rachel Clevenger said they weren't expecting. Thompson, who is a sophomore, took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-7.
St. Regis students get pleasant surprise
St. Regis students received a surprise this week after they finished taking their semester tests on Monday. Yearbooks are a creative outlet that commemorates an important time in your life. While making them is hard work, the result is a fun way to document life and hold onto good memories. On Monday, thanks to the support of businesses from around the county, last year’s juniors, sophomores and freshmen all received a free year book. The seniors of class 2010 also received a free book.
