COEUR d'ALENE - Dictionary pages will be turning.

Words will be analyzed, verbalized, and memorized as a select group of young spellers prepares for the 2011 North Idaho Regional Spelling Bee which takes place March 19 at North Idaho College.

There are 53 fourth- through- eighth-graders from throughout Idaho's five northern counties who became eligible to participate in the regional bee by winning grade level spelling bees held in their school districts. Home schooled students and private school students compete as districts also.

"Congratulations to those who qualified for the regional bee this year - it's an amazing accomplishment," said Mindy Patterson, coordinator of the event.

The winner of the regional spelling bee will receive an all expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in June.

There are 61 schools from throughout North Idaho participating in this year's bee.

The spellers will compete against each other, regardless of grade level, beginning at 10 a.m. in Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center on NIC's main campus. Registration for participants begins at 9 a.m.

The annual event has been sponsored by Hagadone Newspapers and hosted by NIC since 2004.
