Two Libby High School musicians who

have been chosen to rehearse and perform with other gifted students

in Washington state will be hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser

on Saturday to help pay expenses for the weeklong excursion.

LHS junior Sarah Kirschenmann recently

learned that she has been chosen through auditioning to perform

with the 2011 MENC All-Northwest Treble Choir, a group of the best

student voices in the Northwest states.

Senior Jasmin Larsen will also be

traveling to Bellevue, Wash., next week to play saxophone for the

All-Northwest Band.

Nearly 1,000 outstanding high school

musicians from Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and

Montana will convene Feb. 16-20 to rehearse and perform under the

direction of world-renowned conductors.

The combined cost of food, travel and

lodging for the two students is estimated at $1,200-$1,300 –

Kirschenmann’s mom, Hope Kirschenmann said. In fact, she added,

some students don’t even audition for the opportunity because of

the prohibitive expense.

Those who want to support the students’

trip are asked to make a donation and join them for dinner on

Saturday, Feb. 12 at St. John Lutheran Church from 5-7 p.m.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has

agreed to match some of the raised funds, Hope Kirschenmann

said.

The Northwest music event, which occurs

only once every two years, is hosted by the Northwest Division of

the MENC: The National Association for Music Education.
