COEUR d'ALENE - They've fought for a fish for years.

On Friday night, the girls basketball teams from Lake City and Coeur d'Alene High will play for a trip to the Idaho Center, site of the state 5A tournament.

Senior Carli Rosenthal led four Vikings (17-5) in double figures with 18 points as the second-seeded Vikings defeated fourth-seeded Post Falls 75-52 in the 5A Region 1 tournament loser-out game at Elmer Jordan Court.

In other action Tuesday, Lewiston defeated Lake City 52-50 at Booth Hall in the tournament championship game to advance to state, starting next Thursday in Nampa.

Post Falls opened with a 9-4 lead early in the first quarter before the Vikings went on a 19-0 run before Post Falls’ Josie Tennison hit a shot to cut the deficit to 23-11 Coeur d’Alene.

“All five of our starters did some good things for us tonight,” Coeur d’Alene coach Dale Poffenroth said. “It was a real team effort and it helped shooting a little better from the floor than 20 percent on Friday (against Lake City).”

Caelyn Orlandi had 16 points, Heather Baughman 12 and Kendalyn Brainard had 10 as Coeur d’Alene outrebounded Post Falls 35-19 and went 14 of 14 from the foul line.

“We played real loose tonight,” Poffenroth said. “Carli did some good things. Goose (Caelyn Orlandi) did some things, Heather (Baughman) and Kendalyn (Brainard) all played well. We just hope it all comes together on Friday.”

Lake City defeated Coeur d’Alene 41-35 in the regional opener at Booth Hall last Friday.

“It’s going to be a drag out battle on Friday,” Poffenroth said of playing Lake City. “We’re both real close to where we want to be. It’s going to be the last high school girls basketball game in this area this year. They’ve got good kids and all kinds of good pieces. It’s going to be a great game.”

Brooke Litalien scored 17 points and Dani Failor had 13 points, four rebounds for Post Falls, which finishes the season 8-14.

“I thought all my kids played with guts tonight,” Post Falls coach Chris Johnson said. “We don’t always matchup well with other teams, but our kids got after it for 32 minutes. Failor played real aggressive against a kid that’s a lot bigger than she is. Right now, our kids are hurting from this, but I expect them to come back and work harder for next season.”
