COEUR d'ALENE - Newbies, it's time to see what you got.

With parade season fast approaching, the Blazen Divas are looking for a few fun-loving, able-footed showgirls to help stock its fleet of dancers.

Think spry, spunky, with slick-like moves, and clad in costume.

And think fun.

"They want to go out into the community and they want to enjoy doing it," said John Parmann, president Blazen Divas LLC. president, on the ideal applicant. "There's a lot of camaraderie between them. And I think you can see that."

Yep, tryout season is just around the corner.

What does it take to make the team?

Any woman between the ages of 18 and 80 with a sense of adventure.

"I wouldn't want to rule anyone out for having no dance experience, Parmann said. "Some of those are our most talented dancers, they just need to come out of the box."

The Divas, around 65 members strong and known across Coeur d'Alene for dancing and grooving at most big events, began in 2010 carrying the dancing torch from the since disbanded Red Hot Mommas, who had a groovin' 15 or so year run.

Fellas, you're not really allowed. To dance that is. You can volunteer to help carry heavy stuff, and otherwise lend a hand, but there's no question who the real stars of the show are.

"It's a lot of fun for them," Parmann said. "They develop a sisterhood."

Success rates for auditions are 100 percent, as no one has flunked the tryout. Come in workout clothes willing to get in a little aerobic sweat, and have at it. Around eight weeks before a parade, practice time is three times a week, so it's not for the uncommitted.

How soon is practice needed? Well, they could make an appearance in the St. Patty's Day parade around a month away.

Tryouts begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d'Alene. Registration is a half hour earlier, with a $10 fee.
