Tender Lovin’ Quilters of Troy plans to
host its annual Quilting 101 Day on Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Troy
United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
The event is open to the public and
serves as the guild’s way to preserve and teach the art of quilting
to all who have an interest.
The day begins at 9 a.m., with various
demonstrations given by guild members. A potluck lunch is scheduled
for noon followed by a hands-on class on embellishing at 1 p.m. The
morning demonstrations are free and the afternoon class is
available for a fee of $5.
Door prizes will be given out and a
quilt-related thrift sale will be held all morning. Attendees will
be asked to vote on contest entries made by guild members for a
challenge given by guild president Kathleen Pierce.
Organizers said the morning
demonstrations will feature a variety of subjects, such as machine
quilting, English paper piecing and tips to improve accuracy for
block construction.
A demonstration will be given on
stained glass appliqué and other varieties of appliqué.
Participants will learn how to make
decorative as well as useful pillowcases with finished seams and
wine bags.
A unique method of constructing
“Anita’s Arrowhead block” will also be demonstrated.
