Bigfork girls win 16th in a row

BIGFORK - Third-ranked Bigfork held Ronan scoreless in the opening quarter en route to a 44-19 nonconference girls basketball victory on Thursday evening.

That marked the third time this season the Valkyries have held an opponent scoreless for at least one quarter.

Bigfork (17-1) has won 16 straight games heading into the District 7B tournament Feb. 17-19 in Libby.

Bigfork, which honored its seniors before the game, finished the 2010-11 season undefeated at home.

Quinci Paine turned in a double-double for Bigfork with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Mallery Knoll had a strong all-around game with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Caitlin Charlebois finished with 11 points for the Valkyries.

MISSOULA - Glacier lost ground in the second and third periods, outscored by Missoula Big Sky 24-10 in dropping a Western AA contest.

Glacier (8-8 overall, 2-6 league) and Big Sky (9-6, 5-2) were tied at 11-all after eight minutes of play.

Ellie Tinkle led Big Sky, and all scorers, with 12 points.

Cassidy Hashley scored 10 for Glacier.

Libby enjoyed a 21-8 edge at the half.

Polson put the game to rest in the third period, outscoring Eureka 24-5.

Caitlin Larson led Eureka in scoring with eight points.

Polson returns to Northwestern A play Saturday hosting Libby.

POLSON - Eureka had four players in double figures and Polson finished with five in a high-scoring nonconference contest pitting Class B versus Class A.

Polson put the contest away in the second quarter, outscoring Eureka 28-8 for a 52-23 halftime lead.

Tanner Blankers led Eureka in scoring with 20 points. Bryton Guckenberg was next with 15, followed by Chris Ibach, 14, and Tanner Peterson, 12.

Polson's Kyle Bagnell led all scorers with 22 points. Will Davey and Louis Mohr both finished with 14, Ian Laimbeer totaled 13 and Cody Fischer finished with 11.

Camel had a team-high seven assists while Mohr was credited with five.

Tyler Krell led Polson in rebounding with seven.

Polson (12-4 overall) has won six straight. The Pirates host Libby on Saturday, 4:30 p.m.
