REWARDS: Don't play card game
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 11 months AGO
Bravo to your editorial on Feb. 4, titled “No rewards? No problem.” You hit the nail on the head!
I am a retired senior citizen, on a fixed income, so I watch prices very carefully. In my 11 years living in Coeur d’Alene, I have found that Super 1 Foods is the only “major food store” in this area (I don’t consider Walmart a grocery store) that doesn‘t require using those nuisance “penalty” cards. Plus, they constantly have the lowest prices, both regular prices and sale prices, and by far the friendliest, long tenured employees.
In addition to these “cards” being a nuisance, you must use them to get the advertised price. And one of the oldest food chain stores double dips you. If you try to use a coupon for a specially priced item, you not only have to use your card, you must make a total minimum purchase of $20, $25 or more (in very small print) to get the coupon price.
I have heard the excuse made by the other stores that they must utilize these cards in order to compete. Hogwash! Super 1 Foods is busy no matter what time of day or what day of the week I shop there. I must admit, I occasionally will stop at Safeway, Fred Meyer or Albertson’s for an item or two, but it is only for a very special price on those items that is a loss leader. They do not make any money off of my card!
