Mountain West Bank has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Marshall Chesrown and other debtors for non-payment on loans that were made for a planned luxury development project on Lake Coeur d'Alene, a bank official said Monday.

The loans are related to Chesrown's Ridge at Sunup Bay project, said Russ Porter, president and chief operating officer for Mountain West Bank. The suit was filed in 1st District Court in Kootenai County.

Chesrown's attorney, Barry Davidson, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

The Ridge at Sunup Bay is a private gated waterfront community consisting of 33 estate-size properties. Each three- to 20-acre parcel includes a view of Lake Coeur d'Alene and a private boat slip.

The development's website says only about a half-dozen of the lots have been sold.

The development is on the west side of Lake Coeur d'Alene and south of what had been Chesrown's nearly 700 acre The Club at Black Rock development on the lake. Club members there bought that development and its golf course and clubhouse.

Black Rock is about 20 minutes south of Coeur d'Alene via U.S. 95 and Rockford Bay Road.

Chesrown is a former car dealer who, in addition to his work in Coeur d'Alene, has started developments along the Spokane River, in Liberty Lake and in Spokane.

Glacier Bancorp Inc., headquartered in Kalispell, Mont., is the parent company of 11 community banks, including Mountain West Bank.
