EPHRATA - The Royal School District bond is failing.

The $8.8 million bond issue on the special election ballot received

a 53 percent voter approval, according to the Grant County

Auditor's Office.

A school bond must pass with a 60 percent majority approval.

The $8.8 million bond issue on the special election ballot received a 53 percent voter approval, according to the Grant County Auditor's Office.

A school bond must pass with a 60 percent majority approval.

The auditor's office has 75 ballots left to count. The election will be certified on Feb. 23.

If the bond passes, the Royal School District would use the bond money to construct buildings for grades four through six, expand and renovate Royal High School, renovate the Royal Middle School computer lab and make various Americans with Disability Act accessibility improvements.

The district intends to collect bond repayment through an annual levy against property tax within the next 15 years.

According to the latest ballot count, school district levies for Ephrata, Grand Coulee Dam and Quincy passed.

The at-large commissioner model for Grant County Port District 7 passed.

A one-year Quincy Valley Cemetery District 1 levy passed.

The cemetery district will collect an additional 15 cents per $1,000 assessed property value from property owners.
