Thelma W. Carrick, of Hayden, passed away in her home Feb. 16, 2011. She was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Lodge Pole, Neb., to Leroy and Zeva (Walker) Wolfe.

She went to California in 1942 and started working at North American, becoming a "Rosie the Riveter" assembling aircraft for the war. In 1944 she married Joseph Carrick. From that union a son Ernest and daughter Nadine were born.

A housewife raising children, she was also a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, trips with the Brownie's and was an Avon Representative. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, she and Joseph moved to Hayden in 1984. They both became involved with the Rathdrum Senior Center, the Eagles and the American Legion in Post Falls. Thelma was a good cook. She loved crocheting and embroidery and learned the surrounding areas by going to yard sales until diabetes affected her sight. Her daughter moved here in 2003 to allow her to stay in her home as she called "A Little Piece of Paradise" here in Pineview Estates in Hayden; where she had many wonderful friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph (2001); Aunt Edna Walker; brother Warren Wolfe and brother-in-law Harold Davis.

She leaves behind her son, Ernest; his wife, Kathleen and granddaughter Yvonne of Kennewick, Wash.; daughter Nadine Deemer of Hayden and granddaughter Janine Deemer of Lake Forest, Calif.; sister Opal Davis of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Phyllis Wolfe of Allerton, Iowa; with other cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the country.

Viewing will be held from noon until 1 p.m. followed by funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Graveside service will follow at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens. Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, is entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
