Tully's comes to North Idaho
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years, 11 months AGO
Tully's Coffee has opened its first North Idaho outlet in Prairie Shopping Center just east of Albertson's in Hayden.
With about 3,500 square feet in the former location of Starbucks, the store seats 35 inside and eight on the seasonal patio. The menu includes several varieties of coffees and espressos, sandwiches, breakfast items, soups, shakes, pastries, apple cider, bagged coffee, cups and brewers. Wifi is free.
Starting in 1992 in Seattle, Tully's has about 200 outlets in the West with its roasting station in Sumner, Wash. The parent company is Green Mountain Coffee of Vermont, which also is parent company to Newman's Own and Caribou Coffee. Local owner Dave Tawney also has three stores in Spokane and one in Yakima.
With six employees, the Hayden store's hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. Phone 762-3232. Check www.tullyscoffee.com.
Stash Box has funky stuff
"Cool items you don't find anywhere else" is the theme of The Stash Box.
Planning to open in early March at 812 Fourth St., the store will offer incense, candles, special lighters and ashtrays, posters, stickers, jewelry, body jewelry, beaded curtains, Hacky Sack footbags, disc golf supplies, stash boxes and containers, games and freedom of speech and adult-oriented items. Hookah pipes and tobacco accessories will be added.
Owner Brenda Martino started in a similar business at Pike Place Market in Seattle when she was 13 years old. She followed her mother to Coeur d'Alene 12 years ago after she retired. She discovered items the area didn't have while working at Big Smoke in Coeur d'Alene.
Hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Salon Rouge opens on Fourth
All hair services are offered at Salon Rouge, now open at 1911 Fourth St.
Stylists Alise Johnson, Holly Siebert, Sara Emery and owner Gina Johnson offer "everything for hair" including hair and eyelash extensions. A hair stylist in Carson City, Nev., for 10 years, Gina came to North Idaho in 1996 and raised three daughters with husband Greg. Daughter Alise now works with her.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and later by appointment. Groups may be scheduled on off days. Phone 765-8300.
Midtown Motorworks to move south
Offering a more obvious location and other amenities, a former Chevron auto facility at 1008 Fourth St. will become the new home of Midtown Motorworks in March. Doing all types of auto and truck repair, the company will move from 1710 Fourth St. (behind Bistro on Spruce; see Tidbit below).
"We'll have more lifts to service vehicles and a renovated building," said Tim McIntosh, who owns the business with Scott Anderson. They also do some boat work and have lived in North Idaho since the 1970s.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Phone 667-9800.
Here's this week's Tidbits:
• It was a heavy week in the obituaries with the notices of former businessmen Clair Everson of Everson Jewelry, Jack Adams of Coeur d'Alene Tractor, Larry Anderson of Larry's 5-Cent Coffee and Franklin's Hoagies and Duke Snyder of North Idaho College. All were significant experts in their fields; they'll be missed.
• Bistro on Spruce has a special feature for geezers and biddies who forget their glasses. The restaurant has a pair of readers (in a glass, of course) at each table.
• With 16 years of country and ballroom dance lessons, The Crossroads Dance Club at 1800 N. Highway 41 now offers multi-level Zumba classes for adults and kids. They're also considering belly dancing, yoga and hip hop. Phone 659-7535. Check www.thecrossroadsid.com.
• It's too bad the new road out of Fred Meyer doesn't have a right-turn lane to Kathleen Avenue. You can sit there for a while.
