Roy L. Dunn Jr., left his earthly home for his heavenly one on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at home in Post Falls with his family at his bedside. He was born June 26, 1935, in Tonopah, Nev.

He spent his early years in Nevada and moved to Fresno, Calif., during his high school years from where he entered the Navy at 17 and went into reserves at 21. Then he met his wife, Diane, and during the next 10 years had two sons and worked in the electronics industry before being called back into service for the Vietnam War. He then stayed in the Navy and after 26 years of service retired as a cryptologic technician senior chief, CTRCS, in 1982.

While in the Navy, he got his A.A. degree in Pensacola, Fla.; upon retiring in 1982 he moved to Coeur d'Alene and got his B.A. degree in business management at Whitworth College, Spokane, Wash., and in 1986 moved back to California to work for the Veterans Administration in Los Angeles as a rehabilitation councilor helping disabled veterans to get training and work.

It was during this time he got his master's degree in counseling at LaVerne University, LaVerne, Calif. He was greatly liked by his co-workers and all the servicemen he helped. He went out of his way to make sure they got the help they needed. He really enjoyed his work. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fleet Reserve Assn.

Upon retiring from the VA, he moved to Post Falls in 2002 to be closer to his son, Jeff, and family in Sandpoint. He loved fishing and spent time at Fernan Lake and several others in the area before his COPD limited his activities.

He is survived by his wife, Diane, of 54 years; son Jeffery and wife Christine; brother Ira Martin, Cookeville, Tenn; grandchildren, Jeremy and wife Aubry, Valerie and husband Jason Turnbull, Joshua and wife Tricia, Josiah and wife Ashley, and at home Jonathan, Jordan, Joel, Sarah, Rachel and Aimee; great-grandchildren, Declan and Natanya Dunn, Roman and Ariana Turnbull, and Vivian Dunn, all of Sandpoint; also niece Tracy and husband Victor Overacker, Deer Park, Wash.; and cousin Mary husband Gary Johnson, Kingsburg, Calif.
