Raymond Guenther, 102

Raymond Edward Guenther was born Jan. 2, 1909, in Kenmare, N.D., to Frank and Maude Guenther. He died of natural causes at 102 years old on Feb. 9, 2011. Mr. Guenther had recently moved from Spokane where he had lived for 66 years to Seattle to be closer to relatives.

Raymond was married to Louise Guenther Knight on May 26, 1934, in Plentywood, Mont. Mr. Guenther worked for Keiser Aluminum for most of his career retiring in 1964 to open the University City Karmel Korn Shop. After selling the candy store, Mr. Guenther worked for Vera Water District as their controller until finally retiring at age 85. Mr. Guenther was part owner of the Perkins Restaurants in Spokane, Ritzville and Coeur d'Alene with his two sons. He continued to work as a "handy man" until the restaurants were sold in 1996.

After his wife's death, Mr. Guenther moved to The Fairwinds Retirement Home in North Spokane where he lived for 10 years. He was a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church, Concordia Masonic Lodge No. 249 of Millwood and also Magnolia Chapter, No. 194 Order of Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Louise.

He is survived by his sons, Robert and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann of Coeur d'Alene, and Dennis of Seattle; two grandchildren, Richard and Rebecca.

Our Dad will be missed terribly for his wonderful smile and his happy and mischievous personality.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, is in care of the arrangements.
