POLSON — Polson fire and police departments responded to Delaney’s Landscape and Garden Center around 1:30 a.m. last Wednesday morning when a 1,000 gallon propane tank tipped over outside.

According to Fire Chief John Fairchild, the cement block that was supporting the recently filled tank had sunk into the mud, causing the tank to roll and break away from the attached fuel line that led into the building.

“We had liquid propane all over,” he said. “The potential for a real disaster was very high until it was mitigated.”

Fairchild said that liquid propane is quick to dissipate into the atmosphere, and the cloud had carried quite a distance away, but due to a rapid response, and aided by the cold morning air and early morning desolation, it all went off very well and “we were very fortunate.”

Note from the Newsroom

It won’t be long now. As the days become longer and the sun beats down upon us, working to melt the frozen earth, I can’t help but be warmed inside as I anticipate another summer in the Mission Valley. I know it’s only March, and another big snowstorm wouldn’t be unheard of, but we’re on the up-swing now, and it’s about time.
