The Montana Department of Environmental Quality issued a $6,181 fine to Genesis Inc., the state agency announced this week.

Montana DEQ said Genesis violated the Clean Air Act of Montana at the Troy Mine. According to the agency, Genesis was required to install and operate a PM10 monitor by Oct. 23, 2009 and meteorological sensors by Nov. 13, 2009 at a site to measure ambient air beyond the company’s property boundary.

The DEQ alleged that a PM10 monitor and meteorological sensors were not operational until Jan. 19, 2010.
