Arlene Frances Barry-Fry passed away on her 82nd birthday on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at her residence of 56 years, in Kalispell.
Arlene was born on Jan. 9, 1929, to August Henry and Ethel Elizabeth Miller at their home in Bigfork. She was the third of five children. At the age of two, the family moved to Kalispell. She attended Kalispell schools and graduated from Flathead County High School with the class of 1946.
She married Alroy Charles Barry on May 18, 1947, at her parents’ home on First Avenue West. From that marriage she had three children, Fran, Alan and Diane. After Alroy’s passing in 1993, she married Roudolph Fry on Nov. 1, 1997.
The majority of her career was as a bookkeeper with employment at the Chevy garage, Korn Buick and Cenex.
Over the years she traveled extensively, visiting places such as Germany, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Hawaii, Alaska, Nova Scotia and Australia. Many a weekend was spent camping and boating. She enjoyed and created amazing pieces of cross-stitch and participated in a bowling league for many years.
She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Eagles. She loved baseball, music, singing and most of all, she loved to dance! Arlene was an exceptional grandmother, attending every sporting event or activity her grandchildren were involved in.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Alroy; and her oldest brother, Arnold.
She is survived by her loving husband, Roudolph, who resides at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls; daughter, Fran Thorpe and Terry of Kalispell; son, Alan Barry and Connie of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; daughter, Diane Smith and Harry of Kalispell; sister, Margaret Jacobson, of Kalispell; brothers, Arvin Miller of Oit Ashi Oitaken, Japan, and Marvin Miller of Lakeside; seven grandchildren, Brian and Eric Ivie, Brianne and Alana Barry, and Brandon, Bonnie and Benjamin Smith; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Madigan Ivie, Garett Ivie and Charlene Barry; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her loving pet companion, Leo.
A celebration of Arlene’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 329 Second Ave. E., in Kalispell.
