The St. Regis Lady Tigers had a rough game against Noxon coming out of Christmas break last week as they returned to the courts. Coach Janelle Pruitt called it a “very hard” game for the team. The girls ended up losing 11-62.

“We just weren’t playing well,” Pruitt said. “We had a hard time getting girls to the basket to score. It was definitely a learning experience.”

Pruitt said that they learned that attitude is very important. The girls had a rough first quarter to start things off. Noxon scored 18 points in the game’s first eight minutes and St. Regis trailed with zero going into the second quarter.

“We didn’t score in the first and the girls had a hard time picking themselves up and a hard time getting back into the game. It really hurt us for the rest of the game,” Pruitt said. “We can’t let the start influence the whole game.”

Pruitt said that they didn’t really match up well with Noxon going into the game. She said that the team is made up of strong inside players and tall, athletic girls. Pruitt also thought that this being the first game back from break also affected their overall performance.

“We had a lot of girls that got stuck places over break, which affected practice and this was a warm-up game after break that didn’t go as well as expected,” she said.

Juliana Spencer put six points on the board for the Lady Tigers against Noxon and Gabby Moeller shot five.

The girls played Darby on Tuesday. They have a matchup against Charlo on Thursday and will play Victor on Saturday. Pruitt suspects that they are pretty evenly matched with Victor.

As the girls move into the week, Pruitt said she wants to see the girls getting some looks at the basket.

“We didn’t do much shooting against Noxon last Friday and so I would like to see them getting some shots even if we’re not scoring so we can get some looks and get back into the rhythm,” Pruitt said.

The team hasn’t won a game yet this season, which Pruitt admitted has made it difficult. She said, however, that they are focused more so on playing well and pointed out that they are still a very young team with low numbers.

“We’re learning and building,” Pruitt said. “We want to win, we expect to win, but it’s going to take a while.”
