The 68-year-old man who died after being found unresponsive Saturday at Whitefish Mountain Resort has been identified.

Richard T. Swope, a Whitefish resident, died of natural causes shortly after he was found by Whitefish Mountain Resort employees at about 12:55 p.m., according to Flathead County Sheriff/Coroner Chuck Curry.

Swope had a faint pulse when he was found and was transported to North Valley Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Curry said Sunday that Swope died of an apparent heart attack.

It was the first of two deaths to occur at Whitefish Mountain Resort on Saturday.

Kalispell resident Scott Allen Meyer, 29, died while snowboarding and was found at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Meyer was not breathing when he was found in a tree well.

Meyer, a state probation and parole officer, later was pronounced dead at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
