WASHINGTON - The Washington National Cathedral is adding two stone carvings to its structure to depict civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks and Mother Teresa.

The sculptures announced Wednesday are expected to be completed by Easter. They were sculpted by Chas Fagan of Charlotte, N.C., and will be carved by cathedral stone carver Sean Callahan.

Cathedral Dean Samuel Lloyd says the women were selected for their contributions to human rights and social justice.

Parks' refusal to give up her Montgomery, Ala., bus seat to a white passenger in 1955 is often cited as the start of the movement against legal segregation.

Mother Teresa founded her own order of Catholic nuns that expanded to 125 countries to care for the poor.
