The Alberton Panthers had an exciting game on Tuesday night as they played against county rival Superior in Superior.

The boys failed to score in the first quarter and fell behind, 0-7. In the second quarter, they made up for lost ground, outscoring the Bobcats, 10-2. They entered halftime ahead by one.

Coming into the third quarter of the game’s second half, the Panthers continued to rally and outscored the Bobcats again, 14-6, to take the lead by nine points, 24-15. In the end, they ended up winning, 32-21.

Jake Thompson was once again the leading scorer for the Panthers. Against Superior on Tuesday night, he scored 12 points. Josh Webb added five and Brandon Lehl scored seven. Dayton Hudson also contributed eight points to the team’s total.

After the win on Tuesday, the Panthers took Wednesday to prepare for a game against Lincoln, a top team in their conference. Coach Chris Clevenger said the week before that is was going to be important that they hold onto to the ball, stay in position and avoid mental mistakes.

“The big battle for our guys is that when they are in their correct spots and doing what they’re supposed to, they’re doing good, but once they get out of position and make a few mental mistakes, they don’t well,” Clevenger said

The Alberton Panthers played the Lynx pretty evenly in the first quarter. They were only down by two points when the first eight minutes ran out, 10-12. The team played pretty consistently in the second quarter as well. Lincoln only outscored the Panthers by six in the second and the boys entered halftime down by eight, 21-29.

The third quarter, however, proved to be a falling point for the Panthers. The Lynx jumped out and scored early in the third and ran the Panthers over, 23-6. In the end, the Panthers lost 34-64.

Thompson and Webb both scored 11 points apiece for the Panthers, who fell to 2-3 and 4-6 overall. Hudson added six points, Jordan Iverson scored four and Andrew Lommen added two.

This week, the boys will play St. Regis on Thursday at home and battle against Drummond on Friday. The boys won against St. Regis back in December, 36-32, after coming from behind. When they played Drummond back in December, they ended up losing, 37-58, and so they’ll be looking to remedy that.
