Late free throws help Flathead stop Whitefish

Mike VanArendonk cashed in with some big free throws down the stretch and pulled down some key rebounds as Flathead (5-4 overall) defeated Whitefish 62-55 in nonconference boys basketball play on Friday at FHS.
VanArendonk hit 5 of 6 shots from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and went 7 for 8 for the game en route to a 13 point performance.
He also had a team-high eight rebounds.
"Mike VanArendonk was a big factor for us tonight," Flathead coach Fred Febach said.
"He did a great job at the free throw line."
Joe Pistorese led FHS offensively with 15 points. George Sherwood tallied 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
"I thought we played a very good ballgame," Febach said.
"Give credit to Whitefish. They played us tough."
Whitefish had four players in double figures. Mac Roche led the scoring with 16 points. Alex Duroche had 12, Gage Vasquez 11 and Cooper Olson 10.
