The Broncs headed up to Dillon last week on Thursday and did very well. Coach Bob Henderson said that there’s a lot of energy within the team.

“They smell the end,” Henderson said. “It’s looking like we’re going to start to peak at around the right time. Those were the readings I’ve gotten from the last two weeks.”

Alberton wrestler Cody Ishler was back on the mat for the first time since January 13. Against an opponent on January 13, he got nailed right in the temple and suffered a slight concussion.

“I thought it was his eye at the time, but he was sort of staggering there,” Henderson said. “He managed to hang in there and ended up beating the guy.”

Henderson said that they ended up pulling Ishler from the Rocky Mountain Classic and he took a week off.

Last Thursday after, Cody’s opponent forfeit their scheduled match, he wrestled an athlete from Hamilton, and won.

Roy Schutter, also from Alberton, won in his respective weight class and competed well.

The team was supposed to head to Polson Saturday, but the meet got cancelled and so they will be looking to compete against Anaconda at home this Saturday. Henderson said he hopes to pull in another team.

“Right now, it’s all about keeping everyone healthy,” Henderson said. “We’ve had the flu coming and going, but we want to get everyone out on the mats.”

Henderson said though that things are looking sharp, which is good as divisionals will follow next week. Henderson said it’s going to be important for wrestlers to stay consistent.

“Cody should go in at the number one seat and he’s a great athlete. He’ll rise up,” Henderson said. “Roy’s looking again to challenge in the 112 weight class, but he may end up going into the 119 division. His ability is there, but it’s going to be about the mental game. I’m hoping he can find his way back to state.”
