McEUEN: Keep Third Street launch

What is so wrong with the Third Street boat ramp/launch? I do not feel this question has been addressed. People have used this ramp for many, many years and I believe the positives far outweigh the negatives.

In my opinion the number of boaters using the ramps and nearby docks has been grossly underestimated. These docks and the boat ramp generate a great amount of activity in the summer months, bringing business to the downtown area. Removing the Third Street boat ramp, I believe, will have a negative effect on some of the summer events, such as the Fourth of July celebration, the wooden boat show, and Art on the Green, etc.

Moving boaters to the Higgins Point boat launch would certainly be an inconvenience and an increase to the gas needed for people boating to the southern end of the lake, such as Mica Bay, Carlin Bay, Rockford and Harrison. Are we overlooking the direction of this country to go green?

I have yet to see a list of reasons for the Third Street ramp boat closure.
