Outstanding high school musicians from six Northwest states will convene next month to rehearse and perform under the direction of world-renowned conductors.
Among those students is Libby High School senior Jasmin Larsen, who has been selected through rigorous auditioning to rehearse and perform with the 2011 MENC All-Northwest Band on Feb. 16-20.
Less than 1,000 high school musicians from Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and Montana were selected to participate in the All-Northwest band, orchestra, choirs and/or jazz groups.
Musicians will dedicate most of their time to rehearsing in Bellevue, Wash., in preparation for their final concert. The All-Northwest jazz concert will take place at the Bellevue Hyatt Regency Hotel Grand Ballroom the evening of Feb. 19. The remaining concerts, including Larsen’s, will be held Feb. 20 in Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, home to the Seattle Symphony.
The event, which occurs only once every two years, is hosted by the Northwest Division of the MENC: The National Association for Music Education.
