The Plum Creek Foundation awarded a

$1,500 grant on Jan. 19 to the Lincoln Conservation District to

help high school students attend the 2011 Envirothon in

Lewistown.

The Envirothon is a two-day program

sponsored by the Montana Association of Conservation Districts. It

will be held this year on April 18-19.

The Envirothon is designed to encourage

students to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to

arrive at solutions to a specific environmental problem. They work

in teams of five to complete written tests and prepare an oral

presentation.

Larry Benson, Lincoln County High

School biology teacher and Envirothon adviser, expressed his

gratitude on behalf of the district.

“Our Envirothon team, administration,

and myself would like to sincerely thank Plum Creek for their

donation to our program to assist in funding costs for this year,”

he said. “We also would like to thank the Lincoln Conservation

District for their ongoing support for this program. Without all

the help we have been getting from outside sources, we would not be

able to continue this program within our school. The benefits from

this program are numerous and we appreciate all the assistance we

get to continue this program indefinitely.”
