BAYVIEW - Strapped inside a colorful gyro ball, Mishayla Sanchez was rolled, swirled, whirled and twirled on Saturday.
The 12-year-old from Worley and her mom, Sharon, celebrated their Fourth of July weekend at Bayview Daze, enjoying the fine weather and fun activities.
After she had recovered from her dizzying gyro ride, Mishayla shared a few thoughts on the annual lakeside event.
"I love it. It's fantastic," she said. "I love this place. I would live here if I could."
Saturday's festivities began at 10 a.m., under cloudless blue skies. Hundreds of locals and visitors wandered the arts and crafts street fair, checked out the petting zoo or took a camel ride.
Classic cars, gleaming in the sunlight, sat parked in a grassy field.
Around 11 a.m., spectators thronged Main Street for the big parade, a Bayview Daze tradition. Model Ts and lawn mowers chugged past, and camels clopped on the pavement.
"Quite a turnout," said Linda Sigler of Bayview, who watched the parade with her husband, Tim. "It's fun ... just having all the neighbors go by, participating."
The couple moved from Coeur d'Alene about two years ago, they said.
"It's nice up here. We really enjoy it," Tim added.
Jim Olson of Spokane has a summer home in Bayview. He was strolling with his young grandson, Chance, who lives in Seattle.
Brandishing a bagful of goodies, Chance said his favorite part of the parade was "all the candy." He was looking forward to a boat ride on Lake Pend Oreille later that day.
"Bayview Daze are always fun," Jim said.
And they're not finished yet.
Today, the Daze begin anew at 10 a.m. A pet costume contest will take place at 4 p.m., followed by the marquee event a few hours later - the Fourth of July fireworks show at 10.
The arts and crafts fair doesn't wrap up until Monday.
With so much going on - fireworks, camels, classic cars, ice cream and everything else - the event draws quite a crowd.
"We come every year," Sharon Sanchez said. "(It's a) friendly community."
