McCubbins is coach of the year

Columbia Falls native Patrick McCubbins was recently named the Goodyear, Ariz., region coach of the year for leading the Estrella High School varsity program to the 3A championship.

McCubbins was also named the 3A coach of the year. The team lost in the championship game 8-6. His son, Cameron McCubbins, was named freshman athlete of the year at Estrella and batted .400.

McCubbins has been coaching in Arizona for 14 years and is the son of Connie and Floyd McCubbins, of Columbia Falls.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
