No arrests made
in arson case
There have been no arrests in connection to a Friday morning fire that destroyed a Coeur d'Alene home.
Glenn Lauper, Coeur d'Alene deputy fire chief, said investigators are still looking into the blaze at 961 N. Seventh St. that was determined to be arson.
There were no injuries and the house was unoccupied.
Its most recent tenants were evicted for damaging the home, according to a Post Falls rental company.
The Idaho State Fire Marshal's office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Opera Coeur d'Alene concert set
"The Wonderful Wizard of Opera," a one-act opera for the family, will be presented, free to the public, at 6 p.m. Friday at The Coeur d'Alene Resort Plaza Shops.
Opera Coeur d'Alene, a nonprofit, is trying to put the city on the national map for performing arts travel by bringing to town the best of professional classical singers from all over the country, according to a press release.
Other events coming up include a sunset cruise on Lake Coeur d'Alene, Sunday, July 17, featuring Wind Song a quartet of Northwestern musicians.
Singers Andrea Dawson and Max Mendez, with Carolyn Jess at the piano and Larry Jess on the trumpet, will feature a blend of classical, opera, and pops, vocal and virtuoso instrumental music.
On Sept. 23 and 25 nationally and internationally known opera singers will head the bill for Gunoud's Faust, at NIC's Boswell Hall auditorium. That will be fully staged with live orchestra chorus and professionally designed sets, Performed in French, with English translations projected over the stage.

set for Beck Park
POST FALLS - Beck Park will be featured on Post Falls Parks Day on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Activities include a jump castle, climbing wall, obstacle course and Dutch oven cooking demo. There will be a free lunch of hot dogs, chips and a drink.
Legion honors
firefighter, detective
COEUR d'ALENE - The American Legion recently honored Coeur d'Alene Police Detective Crystal Miller and Coeur d'Alene Firefighter Scott Dietrich with two prestigious awards.
Based on her work investigating crimes against children, including sex abuse and Internet pornography cases, Miller was named the 2011 Police Officer of the Year, a press release said.
Her hard work ethic, professionalism and knowledge of law enforcement investigations made her an ideal candidate for this honor, the release noted.
Dietrich, and EMS Instructor and firefighter paramedic, was named the Paramedic of the Year. He demonstrates exceptional dedication, work ethic, patient care and customer service, the release said.
Both recipients will be presented with their awards on Saturday, July 9, at the annual Department Convention in Twin Falls.
Planned Parenthood groups merge
Planned Parenthood VOTES! Idaho has merged with Planned Parenthood VOTES! Washington and Planned Parenthood VOTES! Alaska to become a new regional entity, Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest.
This new regional entity will serve as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood 501 c3 affiliates in Alaska, Idaho and Washington.
Elaine Rose, the former CEO of Planned Parenthood VOTES! Washington, has been named CEO of Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. Jennifer Allen will be PPVNW's Director of Public Policy, and Dana Laurent will serve as Political Director for PPVNW.
"We are excited for this new opportunity to expand our mission and grow the political power of Planned Parenthood advocates in Alaska, Idaho and Washington," said Elaine Rose, CEO of Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. "Women and families in all three states will benefit from this new, strong regional voice for women's health and rights."
