Lynyrd Skynyrd at Northern Quest
SPOKANE - With the amount of tragedy and history brought into 35 plus years of producing killer songs, Lynyrd Skynyrd is still rocking and will bring their energy to Northern Quest Resort & Casino as the final act of the Pepsi Outdoor Summer Concerts on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Show time is 4 p.m. Ticket prices start at $55. This show is for all ages, 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Currently led by original member Gary Rossington and with a catalog of more than 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations. Johnny Van Zant, the brother of original member Ronnie Van Zant who was tragically killed in a 1977 plane crash that took the life of three band members, leads the current group on vocals.
The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Lynyrd Skynyrd is known for hits such as "Sweet Home Alabama," "Simple Man" and "Tuesday's Gone," just to name a few. Their most recent album, Gods & Guns, was released in September 2009.
Library brings banjo player, storyteller
HAYDEN - Make plans now to see Bill Rossiter, banjo player and storyteller, perform at Post Falls, Hayden and Spirit Lake libraries this month.
Rossiter travels the Northwest and will be singing about settlers, women and love on this trip through.
On Thursday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m., Rossiter will present "Stories, Songs and Sodbusters: The Little Old Sod Shanty on the Plains."
He'll be at Hayden library at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, this time performing with his wife, Sharon. They'll present "Who Shall Sing of the Valiant Woman."
Rossiter will wrap up his tour in Spirit Lake at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 16, with "Once Upon A Tune: Musical Tales of Two Continents and Four Centuries."
The Idaho Humanities Council and the Community Library Network Foundation are underwriting these free programs.
Artist to give demonstration
COEUR d'ALENE - Local artist Terry Lee is giving a painting demonstration sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene Art Association from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Fifth and Wallace in Coeur d'Alene.
Lee, is known locally for his Mudgy and Millie sculptures and nationally for his wildlife paintings and sculptures.
"This is a unique opportunity to watch Terry painting and talk with him about this art," according to a press release. "He will share his approach to painting, explain his process, composition strategy and color choices while he works. There will be opportunity for questions of the artist during and after the demonstration."
The Coeur d'Alene Art Association is a nonprofit with about 75 members.

Music, arts festival is July 16
A music and arts festival is scheduled noon to 8 p.m. July 16 at Unity Church of North Idaho, 4465 N. 15th St.
It will be eight hours of "power-packed, positive music." There will also be vendors, arts and crafts and games for kids.
It is free for kids, $5 for adults.
