CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Pete Hoffman struck out eight, but an error in the second inning cost the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen as they fell to Barlow of Gresham, Ore., 1-0 in their opening game of pool play in the Diamond Classic wood-bat baseball tournament on Thursday.

Barlow had runners on first and third before Coeur d'Alene caught the runner on first base in a rundown and had a throw go high to the plate to allow the only run to score.

"We got the runner off first and had the guy at home, but we overthrew the catcher," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "We were trying to keep Pete's pitch count low and he did really well. Offensively, we just weren't there. Hopefully our traveling blues are over with."

Coeur d'Alene (28-15) concludes pool play today against Westview (Yakima, Wash.) and will begin bracket play either Friday or Saturday, depending on their first game outcome.
