I WROTE A POEM ONE DAY

I wrote a poem one day

upon a piece of paper

somehow it didn't rhyme.

I rang a bell

I hit it hard

somehow it didn't chime.

Why does it always seem

the dreams I dream

never do come true

And still I try again and again

knowing very well these efforts

could fail too.

Something drives me

I know not what

Time alone will tell.

Someday I'm going to write that poem

Someday I'll ring that bell.

- Jim Arras, Post Falls

GALAXY

As groping, grasping storm clouds

feast on shimmering, shifting stars.

Let not their brilliance be forgotten,

amongst a turbulent, twisting concealment.

Star bright beauty, predictable as perennial

blossoms-just more frequent appearance.

Milky Way quite orderly - dispersing placement

per chance and by God's orderly discretion.

Some over tilted - a meteor streak, culled by what-

ever - banished from heavens deity. Galaxy

retains posture. Scarcely amiss among the mass.

Falling star by any nuance - a treat to human eyes.

Just another heaven twinkler gone astray. How to

discern each orbit track as no two trailing tails cross.

A visual witnessed speed of sound showering

heavens firmament with an iridescent radiance.

Our universe calculated to endure through eons.

God drew up the blue print - will we ever conquer

beyond our assumed heavenly affirmative?

Our generation-mere wink of an eye!!

Darkening shadows showing through cloud fringe,

Not normal night silhouette peaking through.

Partial hidden full moon losing brilliance.

Gradual shutting out lunar harvest moon.

Grand phenomena of strata-sphere night show.

Dimming moon-light, by strange canopy gradual cover.

Hour by hour land based telescopes, charting and recording

Full blood-red moon, concealed by degrees, christened, ECLIPSE.

- Larry L. Laws, Dalton Gardens

IMAGES OF LIGHT

The after image of the light

Fades on my eyelids

In the night

Like tiny specks

of glitter bright.

You can't count

those prisms fall.

So listen to

the Sandman call.

Morning's come

too soon for all.

- Ramona Hollenbeck, Pinehurst
